Asbestos encapsulation on a roof

Location:
Maó, Menorca

System used:
Fibrocement roof encapsulation with sprayed polyurea membrane and high-performance protective finish.

This solution is ideal for the rehabilitation of fibrocement roofs as it combines safety, sustainability, and technical efficiency, without interrupting activities inside the building and extending the lifespan of materials (lower resource consumption and reduced CO2 emissions). The main objective was to ensure environmental and structural safety of the building, as well as the health of its occupants, without the need to dismantle the existing panels. This was achieved through a high-resistance polyurea-based waterproofing system.

How we do it:

  1. Surface preparation: cleaning and conditioning of the roof to ensure proper adhesion of the system
  2. Waterproofing with elastomeric polyurea (hot application):
Spraying of POLYUREA RAYSTON X5, an expandable elastomeric membrane applied hot, which completely seals the surface, encapsulating the asbestos fibers and providing continuous waterproof protection.
  3. Protective finish: application of COLODUR, a single-component aliphatic polyurethane resin that acts as a UV sealer, extending the durability of the system and enhancing its resistance to weathering.
